Teach Abroad
Join in the teaching abroad program with us and support children access the education they need. As essential as education is, not every kid in some communities here in Ghana are fortunate to access education due to the location within which they find themselves and due to poverty as well. IKA seeks to bridge the gap by providing access to education for every child irrespective of where they find themselves with your help. Therefore, we have carefully selected locations where education is most needed and these communities are sometimes in the rural areas where children lack teachers and educational materials.
By joining our volunteer teaching program, you will be able to make a change. Our rural community teaching program includes:
Nzulezu Community
Nzulezu is a Nzema word that refers to “Surface water”. It is a unique village on water 90 kilometers west of Takoradi in the Western region of Ghana; it is entirely made up of stilts and platforms. The children in this village lack education because they do not get teachers in the community to teach them since teachers posted to the village to teach do not show up due to their adventurous nature.
There are lovely kids out there, willing to learn but have no teachers. IKA seeks to place local and foreign volunteers to teach and also do reading programs for the children of Nzulezu.
Rural Community School Project
There are still rural villages that lack social amenities such as electricity, water, and schools. Most of the trained teachers do not find it comfortable to stay in these communities to teach. Local teachers refuse to show up when they are posted to such communities to teach. As a result, leaving kids in such communities behind when it comes to education.
It takes love and passion, for a dedicated person to volunteer and teach kids of such communities.
In some cases, the children in this village walk for about 40-50minutes to the main road where they could get a car to the near village to attend school since there is no school in the village. Kids between the ages of 5-7years find it difficult to attend school due to the long walk and sometimes children who can attend school do not go during the rainy season.
An effort has been made to cater to kids who find it difficult to travel to attend school. Volunteers who are interested in helping kids in this village will be posted to teach English and basic mathematics, poetry, and drawing for kindergarten and class 1 pupils.
