Group Stay
This mostly applies to larger groups of students or volunteers who are affiliated with Universities or are travelling for a shorter period. The group will be hosted by the Organisation’s hosting premises which will also be within the place where the organization’s office maybe, or closer to the office premises of the organization.
Other housing facilities
This may include University hostels, Guesthouse, or hotels
Our accommodation placement are fully vetted and carefully selected while putting into consideration senitization, security, accessibility to basic utilities like water, electricity, and bathrooms. Individual volunteers will be placed with a host family in the local communities. Larger groups who are visiting for a shorter period of time will be hosted in bunkhouses, hostels, or guesthouses. Our accommodation options are culturally immersive and inclusive.
The host families are friendly and welcoming and are very supportive to add to your best experiences in Ghana. You will never be alone. Your homestay family will provide you with a three (3) squared meal (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) which includes fruits. Although you will eat what your host family eats, they are willing to care for your dietary restrictions and accommodate you, whether you are a vegetarian, lactose intolerant, or have other restrictions or requirements. If you have any dietary restrictions, it is well communicated to your host family and they pay attention to your dietary restriction whiles they prepare you delicious local meals.
The average housing system in Ghana does not include internet, air conditioning, heaters. But, your room will have either a standing fan or a ceiling fan. You will be provided with all the necessities including beddings. The rooms will be modest but comfortable. A portion of your fees goes into your accommodation and feeding and for this reason, you will not be paid any extra money to your host family. A group living in a bunkhouse, hostel, or guesthouse will be provided internet access.
A thank you gift is not expected from your homestay/host family, but it is always appreciated. We suggest you bring something from your country as a thank you gift to your host families, but we highly recommend something that can easily be packed in your suitcase.
Before you arrive, we will communicate with you to know what to add to your packing list. We provide you with a detailed packing list that includes any specialized clothing, tools, and gear you will need to bring depending on your project.
